Cat in the Hat, The (2004)
An entertaining bit of everything including creative set designs, garish colours, animation mixed in with live action and then there is also a kind of cat. Not for the first time a young Dakota Fanning holds her own.
Karate Kid, The (1984)
It has its curiosity value 30 years on but two hours with Macchio is hard work. Pure commercialism.
Satanic Rites of Dracula, The (1973)
Aka " Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride".
Deck the Halls (2006)
Likeable screenplay that has a grain of truth – De Vito and Broderick play off each other very well.
Spider-Man 2 (Spiderman 2) (2004)
The action scenes in the streets are extremely well done. Maguire is a light weight but the film doesn't suffer too much because of the quality of the support cast headed by the ubiquitous Mr Molina.
Duchess, The (2008)
The political side of the screenplay is much more interesting than the philanderings but receives less coverage. Fiennes R is excellent as the sexist hypocrite.
Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
As a comedy it is not great because of its length and its one joke scenario – but what the make–up department achieve is to be admired.
Batman (1989)
Has dated nearly 30 years on but the set designs are still worth it.
American President, The (1995)
It combines light comedy with some light drama quite well and not least because of the two leads.
Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017)
The smurfs are a delight.
