I Served the King of England (2006)
It has excellent period production values, a well written satirical screenplay and it is topped off with a spot on performance from Ivan Barnev.
Battle of Britain (1969)
Amusingly the hierarchy of the British acting royalty is reflected in the rankings of the airforce and civil service roles. Good production values though and the air action looks convincing.
Land (2021)
An unoriginal screenplay but Robin is fine as is the scenery.
In Cold Blood (1967)
Very well written with good use of lighting by the black and white camera. The Robert Blake character was chewing gum during his execution scene. I guess he came to a sticky ending.
K-Pax (2001)
The screenplay is intelligent and Spacey. without doing an out of this world performance. nails the lead character.
Le Grand Soir (The Big Night) (2012)
There are some nice touches to the humour even if the satire doesn't always work. A good try all round and at least the material and the approach is fresh.
Disclosure (2020)
Plays like a play with plenty of arguing and bickering.
127 Hours (2010)
Some good studio special effects and good use of the camera add to the suspenseful situation although things are diluted somewhat by the dream sequences and other diversions.
Une Affair Des Femmes (a Story of Women) (1988)
The time and place are captured in such a believable way as are the circumstances that the female characters find themselves in.
Futurama - Into The Wild Green Yonder (2009)
Garish colours and characters coupled with a bouncy soundtrack make for an interesting experience.
