Aroview: A masterpiece of crime fiction adapted from Truman Capote’s novel about events surrounding the senseless murder of an innocent family by two unstable ‘petty’ criminals.
Shot in celebrated black-and-white ‘Panavision’ by Conrad Hall, and matched by Quincy Jones’ superb modern jazz score, this compliments its stylish homage to ‘film noir’ with a stark realism and psychological complexity. Part police procedural but essentially a penetrating criminal character study, it paints its cold-blooded killers also as the tragic ‘victims’ of broken homes and broken dreams, drawing considerable power from the riveting performances of a young Robert Blake and Scott Wilson.

4 stars (Very Good) Very well written with good use of lighting by the black and white camera. The Robert Blake character was chewing gum during his execution scene. I guess he came to a sticky ending. ~Tubbs
5 stars (Exceptional) Very good adaptation of Capote’s book ~emjay
