Lourdes (2009): "Tomorrow morning is a free half day. You can choose to go either to the baths or confession". The screenplay has some lovely deft touches but importantly they are not overdone.
Gainsbourg (2010): The dramatisation has some clever stylised touches that add even more interest to this bio of the influential but hard to categorise musician.
United 93 (2006): It is a pretty good attempt at a recreation of the events with confusion and panic to the fore.
Smallfoot (2018): The characters are a delight and the story is entertaining throughout.
Last Detail, The (1973): Not much of a comedy but the screenplay is not without interest.
Blue Ruin (2013): This independent production tells the story much more efficiently than a studio would have done and much more realistically.
Nomadland (2020): Frances McDormand is the drama's anchor and keeps us interested for 100 mins by just being Frances McDormand.
In the House (2012): Written as a schoolboy fantasy but one which becomes a little tiring long before the finish.
Amour (2012): Starts well but the middle scenes need patience, as the screenplay aims for authenticity in portraying the caring of a loved one. However, the ending is worth the wait & the two veteran performances are good enough to push the great Huppert to one side.
La Haine (Hate) (1995): The screenplay could be based, and the characters found, in any number of different urban locations around the world.
