Although the comedy doesn't rise to any great heights at least the premise has originality. Christine Baranski shows up best along with the under used Terence Stamp.
Hands up those who pushed Cage from the top of the building. It would have been interesting to see if this remake would have worked with someone else in the lead.
Frustratingly the music is mostly played in fragments – more so because the guy is obviously musically talented. The dramatic bits are not too bad with plenty of name dropping. A documentary with concert footage please.
Worth watching for the first 20 min – not quite as strong afterward. Opening scenes look authentic even though not shot in Belfast. I'm not a fan of the wobbly camera but its well used in the brick throwing riot and ensuing chase.Top notch sound track.
Fassbender, Mendelsohn & the photography very good. The music is a standout. The script has some good one liners. There are enough odd elements to fill a couple of sequels – but too many for one 84 min. film – half the number would have had more impact.
Best scenes are those when a talented Hayley goes into battle against the aged supporting cast who are uniformly excellent. The set designs/costumes are also excellent. The film goes on for a bit too long running out of steam & gets a little soapy.
