Strongest are his childhood scenes. It takes a while for the musical aspects to take effect & some of them are excellent as are set designs/costumes.However the film shoots itself in the foot by being too long – some of the scenes just drag.
Slick editing helps a routine story get by along with its happy ending but the three star highlight is the acrobatics. There is plenty of violence but its not over the top.
The scenario was fine but I couldn't maintain interest in its portrayal even though I'm a Bill Pullman fan. There were some good moments but if they were closer together it would have assisted the viewing experience.
Del Toro takes the acting honours in a well casted film. The story telling is sometime done in documentary style which helps to get the anti drug message across. Uneven overall but worth the watch.
Jean Stapleton adds interest to the supporting cast and I was surprised in the casting of Indie Queen Parker Posey. The plot is very shallow but they do well to stretch it out to two hours (enough time for you to wake up before the end).
A good selection of interviewees who for the most part put forward their views in a rational and uncomplicated manner. The documentary certainly does a lot to balance the nuclear argument.
