The length is its undoing but it is a war crimes story worth telling. The beautiful desert backdrops the excellent action scenes. Well done to the stunt & effects people who depicted the hangings, head shots & being run over by tanks so realistically.
There are two films in this – one when Del Toro is in it and the other when he is not. Hutcherson has to carry the "not" part and he is an anticlimax even in comparison with one of DT's more milder performances.
Not great but it gets across a little of the fear that must have been experienced on a daily basis under the dictatorship. Its portrayal of the bully boy rapists is well done. Emma shines as a victimised character.
There is some stiff upper lip stuff, Nazi rantings and an unnecessary sub plot about More's son but otherwise it tells the story very well with the help of some commendable action scenes.
