Less Than ZeroLess Than Zero (1987)
2 stars (Good Try) A story line that has been filmed several times. The acting of Andrew McCarthy and Jami Gertz deteriorates as the drama increases. Spader and Downey are fine.
Secret of My SuccessSecret of My Success (1987)
2 stars (Good Try) Hasn't dated well 30 years on but has a good soundtrack.
Seventh Sign, TheSeventh Sign, The (1988)
2 stars (Good Try) An okay but not too original screenplay but the casting of a vulnerable Demi and the interesting Jurgen Prochnow really helps.
Just BuriedJust Buried (2007)
2 stars (Good Try) I think it would have had a better chance of success with better casting of the male lead and more utilisation of the naturally laconic Graham Greene.
Edge of Love, TheEdge of Love, The (2008)
3 stars (Good Enough) The set designs & wardrobe for wartime London looked well researched. The strength of the film is the dynamics of the 3 characters but this does weaken with the introduction of number four to the group which I assume was necessary to adhere to the facts.
Happy EndingsHappy Endings (2005)
2 stars (Good Try) Lisa, Maggie and Laura had enough talent to get through this ensemble piece with reputations intact.
His Girl FridayHis Girl Friday (1940)Recommended
2 stars (Good Try) Not as good as other screwball comedies from this period – the never ending chatter is thrown at you without a break but there are some good bits and overall well worth the time.
Love AffairLove Affair (1994)
2 stars (Good Try) It is not as bad as you would think as Annette is always worth a watch.
Lock UpLock Up (1989)
2 stars (Good Try) There is plenty of opportunity to admire Stallone in profile in a vest. If you are not so inclined the prison scenes are done pretty well and have a hard edge to them.
Out of the BlueOut of the Blue (Aramoana) (2006)Aro Favourite
3 stars (Good Enough) The best parts are the opening scenes that set the stage in the small community – beautifully photographed and the settings look spot on. The mayhem that follows is low key and believable.
