It has borrowed heavily for its screenplay and because it had a soft voice I couldn't hear some of what the dog was saying but the animal trainers have done an excellent cuddly job.
A crime film without a policeman. If you can make violence and bad language entertaining then this is a good try. When it comes to crime films the British have a cream of character actors to draw on and here are a number of them on show.
The screenplay took a dip as soon as the love interest kicked in and so did Rush's performance although admittedly his character was inexperienced with women. Although the promising screenplay was a disappointment the production values were excellent.
Because its source was Neil Gaiman it was never going to be boring but the casting of Alex Sharp was a mistake – he struggled in his part and proved to be a distraction.
The opening scene is memorable but the final scene is even better. In between the screenplay is laced with humor that is often caustic. Considering the reaction the film was likely to create it was a brave film to make.
It has a good look to it but the screenplay is necessarily familiar because of its crowded horror genre. However, it is worth a watch because of the doppelgänger aspect.
