The warlord gets interesting as the screenplay develops but the male characters generally are one dimensional. The wardrobe department does a great job but the strongest part of the film is the gorgeous photography highlighting its use of colour.
For the most part, it follows the American western formula, including the most interesting character being a baddie (Rickman), but there is a good scene with dingoes and some panoramic down under location shooting.
The screenplay involves a creature, which resembles a vacuum cleaner gone berserk, trying to clean up the island of islanders who don't want to be cleaned up and are rushing around trying to unplug it. Good stuff.
