Although the screenplay runs out of steam somewhat before the end it is still a delightful exercise in observing youngsters going about their business.
It shouldn't really attract much interest because of the number of zombie films that have arisen in recent times, but the strong reputation of the director and the casting should ensure it will keep its head above the ground.
An interesting screenplay which concerns Bacon's relationships more than his painting. The set designs and other period details are well done but towering over everything is Derek Jacobi's performance.
Because we witness the crime early in the screenplay the suspense element isn't great but what follows e.g. the lead up to the crime and the aftermath is still interesting thanks to the craft of the filmmaker.
It had some great offbeat comedy moments but it was also very violent. The violence without the comedy mix may have been unpalatable but together, for the most part, it worked.
There is a fine line on whether black comedies work or not. This one comes across as unintentionally grubby, or at best immature, which is a pity because of the cast involved.
