Not sure why the screenplay needed to spend so much time in the present at the expense of the childhood years. However, it is great family entertainment plus there is an anti–blood sports message.
While it is possible not always to agree with Amin's political views and opinions of himself it is valuable that they have been recorded on film for historians.
It could be criticised for being a bit light, but it is believable and the characters aren't annoying. Pia Miranda is fine and she has two excellent character actors as parents in Heather Mitchell and Marshall Napier.
