Sahara

USA 2005, 127 minutes
Dir. Breck Eisner
Rating: [M]
Genres: Action/Adventure

Topics: Gung-ho.

Aroview: Preposterous action yarn has 'New Age' treasure-hunter McConaughey team up with Zahn to find a Confederate battleship which is somehow wrecked beneath the sands of the Sahara desert!

Proceeding with a broad grin on its face, this forgoes the hi-tech stylings of TOMB RAIDER for more traditional ingredients, though has a similar lightweight feel. While building in several side-plots involving plagues, pollution and tinpot African dictators, this remains fairly faithful to the promise of its ideas. Based on the novel by Clive Cussler ("Raise the Titanic!"), the pulp texture is perhaps too thin to stretch the full running time, but undemanding audiences will enjoy the ride.
