It needs to tread a fine line and does so by achieving a balance in its satire without being offensive to any particular persuasion. Importantly it doesn't overstay its welcome.
It has some entertaining segments but I don't think it knew what kind of film it wanted to be – Kung Fu, comedy, or sports and therefore what audience it wanted to attract.
The suspense is there but it is not overdone and it is not in your face. The suspense is believable because our heroine is believable and she is vulnerable and she could be me.
A very good plot idea is thwarted by another over the top performance from Cage. It would be good to read the story without the distraction of Cage's histrionics or watch a remake of the film with the title role recast.
Whilst remakes generally fall under the description of lazy filmmaking, one based on the "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", you would expect to be interesting.
