One of the more unusual segments, this has dir. Wenders investigate his cult favourites among bluesman - Blind Willie Johnson, Skip James and J.B. Lenoir - tracking down obscure recordings and footage. Also features updated versions of songs performed by Lou Reed, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bonnie Raitt, Cassandra Wilson and T-Bone Burnett.

5 stars (Exceptional) Visionary assessment of blues by a great film-maker. Newly-discovered amateur footage of Lenoir compensates for none of Blind Willie & Skip James at their peak; sensitively covered by substitute musicians. Great soundtrack. Lots of new information. ~Sandy
