Insomnia
Aroview: Consummate thriller from the director of “Memento” is an exemplary remake that follows closely yet deftly refines the well-regarded yet little-seen Norwegian original.
Re-set in a remote Alaskan village where it is perpetual daylight, weary, baggage-heavy LA cop Al Pacino touches down to investigate a murder, but an unforeseen incident lands him knee-deep in suspicion, guilt, self-justification and a game of amoral one-upmanship with his chief murder suspect. As well as the outstanding performances of Al Pacino and Robin Williams, this new version brings sharper definition to both the main backstory and the role of the local cop (played as a rookie by Hilary Swank), adds a virtuoso chase sequence over floating logs, and finds a fitting alternative resolution that is more climactic and precise.

4 stars (Very Good) I think this is my favourite Nolan movie. Leaves the viewer as disoriented and morally adrift as Pacino's character. Excellent performances all round. A gripping, challenging piece of work. ~HiFi
3 stars (Good Enough) Pacino, Swank and Donovan are a strong cast and perform well. The story is worthy of attention and there are some excellent locations. ~Tubbs
3 stars (Good Enough) 3/5 - Fair remake of the Scandinavian Insomnia (1997) for American spectators. Pacino and Swank excellent as usual. ~Anonz
