It’s an oft-told inspirational tale of overcoming adversity, but there’s a quiet feeling of desperation and above all, empowerment, that makes this film fascinating to watch.

2 stars (Good Try) Keke Palmer as the young speller is very good and makes the padding scenes in between the spelling contests watchable. The contest scenes follow the usual formula but the ending is soft. ~Tubbs
