Seaquest DSV (TV Series) (1993): Idea–fest on cyber–genetics, "one world government", super–soldiers, psychics, intercontinental trains, deep sea vents energy – later seasons used alien/time travel tropes which alienated some cast, crew, & fans. Great character development & tech savvy; DVD $29.95
Rubbings From A Live Man (2008): A treat for theatre heads! Habicht's (and Broadhead) paracinematic offering as art and archive of Warwick Broadhead's rich history in performance and life. Broadhead holds almost nothing back!; DVD ~~$25~~ $18.75
Prometheus (2012): Mystery and goo! A terrific relevant reboot to what burst out of the 1970's by Dan O'Bannon, Ronald Shusett, H.R. Giger and Ridley Scott. Updated with more modern takes on genetic engineering and ancient astronaut theory.
Pi (1998): Aronofsky's bare bones catharsis piece "π" confirm's fractal desire of agenda vs truth: "If you know ...you know".
Baraka (1993): Who would non have this in their all time top five movie list?
Dead Man (1995): In magnificent almost silver daguerreotype like black and white kinovistic tones this poetic masterpiece of wild west post–colonial industry–capitalism–fascism death–trip is Jarmusch's watershed accomplishment surely?
Grizzly Man (2005): Intense almost autistic in delivery kinorama of bears, beaches and blondes. A meaty delight with one of Maestro Herzog's best narration ever.
Cell, The (2000): Stylish to the point of inappropriate for subject matter? ...nah! Tarsem Singh's "molecular–psychopera" vision quest here tells a story of itself! Howard Shore's very very hallucinatory score is a treat; DVD ~~$24.95~~ $18.70
Fantastic Planet (1973): Dreamy scary think–hole of a real 70's–esque delight. Cult classic maximus!
In the Mouth of Madness (1994): H P Lovecraft meets John Carpenter in 90's multi idea literature–society–simulacra mind–f. What if the Wachowskis remade this?
Art School Confidential (2006): Often overlooked gem from the noughties! Clowes/Zwigoff's faux light twisted tone gives a type of American Kabuki for true grit and madness of art–world R–complex cliché and in–jokes. See Malkovich having fun with "academic rhetoric–artiste" trope.
Brown Bunny, The (2003): Vincent Gallo's 'The Brown Bunny': Pure cinema as the art–form you really want it to be. Uber–bioskoopa! For true heads only!
Bottom (TV Series) (1991-1995): Clever in low–low–low–high explorations of slapstick and why–not laughs. Tender extended riffs of a 'Withnail & I' type? Grungey flatters rejoice yer mirror–de–art awaits!
Prince of Darkness (1987): Superb slow burn building to glorious zones of terror – terror circa John Carpenter 1987! – So many elements of spookiness that could of maintained there own respective films! Score is Carpenter at his buzzy synth's and reverberated drums finest!
Holy Mountain, The (1974): Stunning ideas, sets, & visuals made possible with "John Lennon 1970's Bucks": This film proves our unwinnable mechagnosis reality. As the karma burns we are still left with mission and technology – to be radical/root of magic and tool.
Inland Empire (2006): "More than a deconstruction" – D Lynch (in a French interview on 'Inland Empire').
Last Days (2005): A quite arty cinematic para–meditation on Cobain situation; non a 'high–lights only' hagiographical bio–pic. For some watching G V Sant's 'Last Days' again (& again) will offer much reward. Mos' def' in my top 10 OAT.
