Ritchie's films are at their best when the characters do the talking, not the guns. Compare the quality of the character actors employed in "Lock Stock" & in "Snatch" with the casting in this & you can see why the emphasis has shifted toward the gun.
It has a believable screenplay and characters, especially the marriage relationship. Other than the odd growl from Marvin and a scuffle with a toy gun it is also refreshingly free of violence.
The breaking up and mixing of different but loosely related stories into short sharp scenes works well as it keeps your attention in not knowing what comes next.
