Silent War, The (2012)
The screenplay is a little drawn out but its basic premise is interesting enough to hold the attention.
No Country for Old Men (2007)
It is so well written and the characters are so well drawn that the violence and the high body count seem par for the course for this part of the world. The casting and the characters are seamless.
A Rainy Day in New York (2019)
The rain was fine.
Blackbird (2019)
An excellent female ensemble but the material is not that interesting.
Flaming Brothers (Jiang hu long hu men) (1988)
The early scenes showed promise but it didn't really depart from the normal after that.
Keeping Mum (2005)
The very capable and perhaps underrated Kristin Scott Thomas anchors this well written comedy and is at ease working alongside an acting dame and a very successful comedian.
Rosie (2018)
Aims for realism and succeeds.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1996)
An excellent starting point for anyone interested in Qawwali music.
White Ribbon, The (Das weisse Band) (2009)
There is a draconian hierarchy between male & female & between adult & child. The males at the top are full of faults & the women & children consequently are vulnerable. That this not unusual scenario is captivating for over 2 hours is excellent work.
Excalibur (1981)
It is as good as any other production I have seen on the legend – the power casting certainly helps.
