Quality production with Michelle in top form. The screenplay is strong in the early scenes when the enemy is settling in to its occupation (its a new experience for everyone) but later it plays like a romance with an ending that's silly.
Although its only a rom/com there are some good moments mainly through the casting of an excellent support cast. For better all round value though try "84 Charing Cross Road (1987)".
Nothing wrong with the story and whilst there is violence it doesn't smother the SF aspects.Tim McInnerny looks the part and shows how versatile an actor he is. The set designs are a highlight.
The acting and the production values are fine but this comedy gets a bit tiresome after a while and its ability to maintain interest certainly doesn't last any where near its running length. Documentaries are the best vehicle for getting at the truth.
Gave it an extra star after watching the "Making Of" – it was made in defiance of the bigotry applying in the 50's. Filmed in easy on the eye B/W it features two excellent performances from Kerr and Clift. December 7 has the best scene.
