Nasty BabyNasty Baby (2015)
2 stars (Good Try) Had trouble concentrating on this one – will watch again.
Steve McQueen: The Man & Le MansSteve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans (2015)
2 stars (Good Try) I don't care for McQueen ("Racing is life–––––") & certainly not for cars going round and round but there is some interest in the troubles associated with putting the 1971 film together.
Milk of Sorrow, TheMilk of Sorrow, The (La Teta Asustada) (2009)
5 stars (Exceptional) Understated with touches of humour. An academy award nominee for best foreign film but one that has not sold itself out to please american audiences. A wonderful lead performance.
Mr. Magorium's Wonder EmporiumMr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (2007)
2 stars (Good Try) The story line lacks freshness but the set designs and effects are worthy of a watch.
ElegyElegy (2008)
2 stars (Good Try) There is no discernible plot but there are a couple of nice scenes of waves coming into the shore.
SalingerSalinger (2013)
3 stars (Good Enough) This documentary has received mixed reviews. As a documentary it told me much more about Salinger than I knew before and I have the benefit of not having read him so I can claim some impartiality.
Joy DivisionJoy Division (2007)Recommended
4 stars (Very Good) Intelligent use of archival film of Manchester to establish the background to events. The interviewees are excellent – no flamboyance just down to earth North of England colourful reminiscences. They have put Joy Division to bed and got on with life.
LifeLife (2015)
2 stars (Good Try) The Dean character put me to sleep and Pattinson is boring at the best of times.
Adam's ApplesAdam's Apples (2005)Recommended
4 stars (Very Good) It tackles the hardest genre of them all – the black comedy – there is no half way house – you either succeed or fail. The excellent & original script writing is delivered to perfection by some wonderfully drawn characters.
Run Fatboy RunRun Fatboy Run (2007)Recommended
2 stars (Good Try) The plot is a no brainer and has a silly ending but it is delivered in style. Dylan Moran stands out.
