For the most part its a good screenplay with some good comedy but it weakens out toward the end. Fonda holds the film together extremely well with William Powell good in a minor role.
Although Gold looks to be a nice chap it's yet another food documentary. The food that's served up reminds me of the dresses you can't wear in the fashion industry and the bullshit surrounding abstract art.

An excellent example of a bitter sweet comedy – a type of film at which Mr. Leigh excels. Brenda Blethyn is unforgettable as she takes all the stops out.
Takes its time. The photography – particularly the long shots – on the exterior scenes is memorable. The screenplay is unusual & needs patience. The house fire scene is impressive. The bonus is a "Making Of" & also about the Director just before he died
