Some wonderful (time capsule) working class scenes. On Carol's performance rested the film – she toughed it out incl. a few smacks across the chops. Loach went on to do better but many directors would have given their right arm for a start like this.
There is a lot like but overall its uneven – Geena is very good as usual but it was at its best when the three males looked like traffic lights. There is a very good dance sequence.
Some good but not many street location shots but the rest is indoors so it relies on the script and performances – these are at their best early before the two leads fall in love with the usual silliness that follows.
There were elements of the screenplay that were promising but as with a number of modern horrors centre stage is taken by noisy sound effects to "enhance" the scariness – but proves more of a distraction.
It has a disability theme but the sentimentality has a raw edge.Matthias plays a male animal & has more screen time (his fight scenes are extremely well produced) but Marion is one of those actors who doesn't need a script to steal a scene.
