The screenplay has quite a bit of freshness to it which in itself is worth a watch. The casting is more than useful with Murphy pulling two wage packets and deservedly so. His performance as the bank clerk is top notch.
Its in 2 parts with the best segments those which depict living aboard a small heaving vessel at sea with the resulting conflict situations among the crew.
The conflict scenes are handled very well with some good backgrounding archival footage but the other bits – romance etc. – are not interesting and rather stodgy.
Effects of privatisation on a group of railway workers & the risks to safety by cost cutting. Its bitter sweet – because the characters are believable it is so easy to empathise & sympathise with them – if you don't then watch more of Loach until you do.
