The only thing that made an impression was yet another hysterical performance from Giamatti – thank goodness his was only a supporting character. The plot idea was fine but as portrayed it was hardly compelling viewing.
A little better than the standard actioner with Arnie capable of drawing a couple of laughs which is not normal for a muscle head lead. James Caan is good as usual.rn
The only thing that I could discern from the plot was that everyone was trying to shoot everyone else except that everyone else was sometimes a dummy – which reminds me Bruce Willis stars.
The first half is set in the city with its impressive number of extras. The second half is on the farm with wheat fields now in the supporting role. For any film from the 30's to stand the test of time as a compelling drama needs no further comment.
1st part films the streets – its easier to list what does not happen on the streets than what does – 2nd section is concerned with plump people golfing & attending horse racing but the climax is of the gut wrenching slums & also the out–casted lepers.rn
