Takes its time but the pacing is okay for the locale. Hanks wears the same expression for most of the proceedings. The film has some trouble finding a finish – the romance drags it out.
Its a bit gun obsessive but by being so maybe its trying to deliver an anti–gun message. The screenplay has energy but the attempt at offbeat characters misses by half a beat which is sufficient enough for them to become tiresome.
I don't think I've seen Michael Caine as uncomfortable in a role – he's not bad but he seems to be acting and therefore is not Michael Caine. The screenplay whilst not original is not too bad.
It is good that it highlights the greedy/negligent landlord problem and there are some very good segments and location shots away from the violence. The friction between the characters is however a repeat of what has been filmed many times elsewhere.
