As with Keaton, Tati is the master of the visual comedy with little dialogue required – he uses all the screen – don't just watch what is happening in front of you – keep an eye on the background characters as well.
The bickering between Garfield & Crawford gets tiresome & then it becomes too melodramatic. The film's over length is due to some top notch violin/piano playing which is some compensation. Watch the "Making Of" to find out how the music was filmed.
The screenplay was easily sidetracked and it may have been better off with showing us how to plant cabbages rather than having the Tom Hughes character.
Vincent Price is widely regarded as the hammiest of actors and here he is in top form. Karloff, Lorre and Rathbone in support are all worth the price of admission on their own.
It seems a silly event to get mildly excited about never mind about the level of enthusiasm captured by the documentary – however we can be all guilty of too high a level of passion in our sports and pursuits.
It didn't make much of an impression other than Jake G getting a bit hysterical at times. It seemed a bit of an over–complicated way of telling a story.
