Saw some extensive concert (4 hours) footage on another Blu–Ray version which is impressive – the interviews with Murphy are okay but are padding between the musical segments.
An overly convoluted screenplay doesn't help and Douglas doesn't impress in the lead role although even the fine actress Deborah Kerr looks bewildered at times.
There is no suspense – the title gives away what is likely to happen but with the exception of the noisy musical score it is okay as light entertainment.
Young John Bell appears as a character that is meant to be shy and frightened & in this he does well. The sentimentality of the screenplay picks up pace and becomes a weakness but the big plus is the stunning shooting locations.
Little has been learned in 2016 from the 2000 election. The police don't come out of it too well and neither does the integrity of the voting system, but the saddest thing for me is the millions spent on campaigning when thousands are homeless & hungry.
