The perfect casting gives the characters every chance of success. These films are made so that Christopher Lloyd can do his thing but in this case he'd be looking over his shoulder at young Ricci doing hers. The script has some terrific put downers.
It must have been a difficult novel to bring to the screen and it shows in the uneven screenplay. Although its far from his best because it is a Terry Gilliam film it is never boring.
Because of its extraordinary length it wouldn't matter if you popped out and missed twenty minutes or so now and again. The set designs and wardrobe are of a very high standard and the oratory scenes are well handled.
