Very high production values with one wonderful early scene when they are accosted by 3 louts in a foggy 1940's London street. I'm not a fan of dramatising true events so I hope they got the story right as their story is worth telling.
Although the screenplay weakens out from its very strong start by repeating itself the spot on female casting and the set designs – old equipment and all – are worthy of a watch.
The director said she took a long time over the casting of the girls so that they would be credible as the 5 heads of the same body. The screenplay handles the custom of arranged marriages in a bitter sweet and effective way.
It is a romance so the screenplay doesn't go anywhere but Carey's performance is worth watching and so are the period's set designs, wardrobe and make–up (dirty faces and all).
