They don't make them like this anymore. Arthur and Arnold lead the destruction and are well supported by character actors of the ilk of Mary Nash and Franklin Pangborn. A screenplay that doesn't let you draw breath for too long.
The acting is a bit basic but it doesn't detract from its watchability. A small cast and a small production create genuine suspense in a short running time (other film makers take note).
The in–joke is that the title refers to the script writing and not the characters. Hill is impressive doing a Joe Pesci impression but the only thing these characters need is being put over someone's knee and given a spanking.
Peck is fine in this one – it suits his wooden post acting style as there is not much moving about. The screenplay is very well written with no silly sub–plots and the early scene of the abandoned airfield is memorable. Overall its a change from the norm.
