Mighty Wind, A (2003)
The plot idea is fine but everything including the music is a bit flat.
Rebel Without a Cause (1955)
Although the screenplay hasn't weathered too well 60 years on it is worthy of a watch as a curiosity piece. The performances as parents of Jim Backus and Ann Doran are still worthy of attention.
Niagara (1952)
A solid drama assisted in no small measure by its locale. Loved the 1950's technicolor.
Good Night, and Good Luck (2004)
A low key and compact dramatisation. The casting of David Strathairn is spot on as is the quality support casting.
Alphaville (1965)
The screenplay is a struggle for the most part but the pieces then start to fall into place toward the later stages. The set designs are sparse and depressing & the film is best viewed on a cold winter night. Thank goodness it was shot in black and white.
American Made (2017)
The value of a documentary – which this is not – over a dramatisation is that it is more difficult to embellish the facts. This is important when the story involves the criminal element.
Bank Job, The (2008)
Entertaining and never boring – having quality character actors helps.
Snow Queen, The (2012)
The animated (icy) set designs are well done and easy on the eye.
Dr. Dolittle (1998)
It is okay but a little flat when you compare it to animal performances in animated films.
28 Days Later (2003)
The screenplay is uneven – it would have been better without the humans.
