8 Mile (Eight Mile) (2002): The bleak exterior scenes are well done and set the tone along with the constant beat of the rap. The casting is spot on.
Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards (2017): A worthy addition to the large fashion documentary genre.
Only the Brave (2017): A good drama that is strengthened by the casting.
Closer (2004): It lacks characters that are worthy of attention and the script in parts is insulting to the intelligence – other than that it is okay.
Hypnotic (Doctor Sleep) (2002): Aka "Close Your Eyes". Not great but the plot idea has interest and there is more than a useful cast.
Action in the North Atlantic (1943): Still a good watch 75 years on.
Negotiator, The (1998): A silly screenplay that requires, for the most part, the characters to swear and yell action words at each other otherwise they will throw their toys out of the cot.
Quiet American, The (2002): It has a good political message and does well in this regard but as a drama, it is pretty flat (even with Michael Caine in it).
Birdcage, The (1996): An unnecessary remake and it could have been funnier if it had been sharper and shorter. Nathan Lane has the best moments.
Three Kingdoms (Resurrection of the Dragon) (2008): Follows formula – the fight scenes have people flying about and there are plenty of flashy slow–motion action scenes. Usual quota of photogenics in the cast.
