Bill Cunningham New York (2010)
Four stars for a fashion documentary(?)
Beirut (The Negotiator) (2018)
There is a freshness to the casting – not the usual stars toting machine guns. The screenplay is well–written.
Lantana (2001)
The screenplay kicks in after an hour and a half and then goes missing again in favour of a crappy ending.
Matrix Reloaded, The (2002)
It is a good advert for sunglasses and apart from some worthy special effects, there is not much else. Hugo Weaving and others in support provide some acting and much–needed relief.
Beautiful Creatures (2013)
It is mainly forgettable which is some achievement considering there is Irons, Thompson et al.
Barbara (2012)
Nina is fine but the only other worthwhile thing is that the set designs capture the depressive feel and mundaneness of the '80s in East Germany.
Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest (2011)
It gets less interesting after the group breaks up and the finger pointing starts but worth it overall. There are some great outdoor location shots in the early part of the documentary.
Cover Girl (1944)
Although there was only one memorable tune the dancing made up for it. The non–musical segments stumbled along and needed a bit more of Eve Arden. The Technicolor was beautiful.
Rough Night in Jericho (1967)
The screenplay is okay without being anything out of the ordinary. The casting of George Peppard and Jean Simmons adds solidity.
Chicken People (2016)
It is lightly boiled and sometimes informative.
