Silent Wedding (2008)
It takes the piss out of the totalitarian Soviet shadow that existed in 1953. The screenplay is bittersweet but thankfully more sweet than bitter.
Cassandra Crossing, The (1977)
None of the many stars in the film are at their best. There is enough time to make two Cassandra Crossings in the overlong screenplay.
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)
The final scenes are untidy & it struggles to find an ending but what goes before is worth it. The screenplay is slow but it allows room for a bit of historical name dropping. The "could never be boring" Tilda would have been a compulsory casting choice
Life of Pi (2012)
It is excellent visually and the special effects and editing around the animal action are impressive.
Upgrade (2018)
It is better than a lot of action films as the screenplay has some elements of intelligence. Some of the set designs and the use of lighting are also worthy of attention.
Outlander (TV Series) (2014)
Season 1: A good plot idea but to hold an audience's interest for 16 episodes needs a delivery that is snappier than this – otherwise it could be described as a Soap.
Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
An original screenplay (they don't normally come as fresh as this one), a great performance from Toby Jones and a set design that does credit to the '70s.
Goodbye Christopher Robin (2017)
Great production values but Domhnall Gleeson's casting doesn't work and I wished they could have lost the kid. Kelly MacDonald shows them how its done.
Man Who Haunted Himself, The (1970)
The screenplay is pretty good and although Moore struggles in both parts the supporting cast rise to the occasion.
Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1972)
It has the expected Hammer period production values plus a good screenplay.
