Tulip Fever (2017)
It somehow manages to waste a pretty good cast. At best the screenplay can be described as uneven.
Hereditary (2018)
Most of the first hour is fresh and very good but after that, it follows a well–trodden path. Two hours is a long time to maintain suspense.
Magnificent Rebel, The (1961)
The photography and trappings are easy on the eye and the musical segments are a selection of his more popular compositions.
Hotel For Dogs (2009)
The dog action is handled very well although there is some competition for centre stage from Lisa Kudrow who does some scene–stealing.
Occupation (2018)
There are some laughs once the aliens arrive.
Killers (2010)
It is okay but a better casting than Kutcher would have helped.
Mirror Crack'd, The (1980)
The production values are very good but the screenplay is a bit uneven. The best bits involve Angela Lansbury and Edward Fox.
No Ordinary Sheila (2017)
A no–frills South Islander. She brings you back down to earth – she is what Kiwis think they are but after witnessing her life story we realise how frivolous, materialistic and meaningless we have become.
Mauvais Sang (The Night Is Young) (1986)
Unable to stop comparing the Lighting Director's dreams of Delpy & Binoche with the rough looks of Lavant & thinking there is hope for us yet. The dialogue degenerates into romantic drivel but the stylistic screenplay & casting of Piccoli offsets this.
Mulholland Drive (2001)
Screenplay is fluid rather than structured. Some comedy moments relieve the strain of trying to follow the plot. Best photography happens at night when we are travelling the lonely winding roads. Amongst the mayhem is a wonderful performance from Naomi.
