The theme tune is thrashed to death but not before the viewer receives the same fate from Diana Ross's acting (or screeching). Surely one of the filmmakers had the courage to tell her to can it and stop making a fool of herself(?)
It really comes alive only when Dennis Farina is on screen which is surprising considering there is quality of the caliber of Hackman and Gandolfini also in support.
It drags in parts but 60 years on there are still some good scenes particularly the one between my favourite baddie Robert J. Wilke and Coburn. Eli Wallach has the standout character and he makes the most of it.
Excellent ensemble performances with Liv Tyler standing out. The low key screenplay has some delightful moments and the superb soundtrack is to the fore without getting in the way.
