Whilst it lacks the charm of the 1950's monsters the special effects are impressive. You can't sympathise with the robotic human characters so you might end up cheering for Godzilla.
There are that many zombie films that the zombies just walk from film set to film set. It is time we shot this genre in the head so it doesn't come alive again.
First–half & especially the civil war segments are worth watching even after 80 years – but the second drags with the incessant squabbling. Well done to the wardrobe, set designs, score & a tour de force from Vivien who is on camera most of the time.
Charlize chooses another unglamorous part and again serves up the goods. Although the screenplay weakens out from a strong beginning when Charlize is struggling with a new baby and two kids her performance makes it worth sticking with.
A competent musical that has the great advantage of having classy supporting actors Edward Everett Horton and Eugene Pallette looking after the padding in between the musical numbers.
