Jack O'Connell (young nutter) and Ben Mendelsohn ( young nutter's dad ) are worth the price of admission. The violence although regular is an integral part of the screenplay.
It starts out strongly with the best scenes between BenoƮt Poelvoorde and Gustave Kervern. Most of the road movie segments are also very good but it runs out of steam quite badly and has a problem finding a finish.
Shot in beautiful black and white (mainly black) – it would not have worked in colour – with a soundtrack made to measure. The vampire genre has been thrashed to death but I think we can make room for this one.
Although plotless and unpredictable an anti–establishment message comes through even if its in a symbolic way. The two impish performances keep things moving even if they cause a bit of mayhem along the way.
