Following, The (TV Series) (2013)
SI– The plot idea is good (serial killers communicating and connecting with each other) and whilst the episodes are watchable they can be indistinguishable. Bacon and Purefoy as the antagonists are fine (sounds like a breakfast menu).
Flight of the Red Balloon, The (Le Voyage du Ballon Rouge) (2007)
It doesn't really take off.
Armadillo (2010)
It is as good as most in this genre. It captures the issues of civilians caught in the middle, target identification, bloodlust, boredom, etc. very well. It could market itself as a fictional drama if it wanted to & the viewer would not be any the wiser.- DVD
$29.95 $14.95 | Blu-Ray $34.95 $19.95
Last Year at Marienbad (L'Annee Dernier a Marienbad) (1961)
This film has been influential & deserves to be seen. The first–hour you wonder if there is a plot. Toward the end, however, things do loosen up a bit & offer us mortals, an inkling of understanding. The "set designs" are expensive.
Cross of Iron (1977)
What is not dated is the anti–war message. The wardrobe and the mud looked authentic and except for the compulsory slow–motion action shots, the battle scenes had an authentic feel about them. The casting should have been German, however.rn- DVD $19.95
In the Heat of the Night (1967)
50 years on and it is standing the test of time. The initial dignified Poitier/chewing gum Steiger confrontation with Oates lurking in the background is a good set up for what is to come. Great photography, music score and supporting cast.- DVD
$20 $15
Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017)
Denzel without a gun took a bit of getting used to but the screenplay on a first viewing didn't do much for me. I will watch again and I'll be better prepared next time.- DVD
$20 $15
Swamp Thing (1982)
The human characters are pretty ordinary but el cheapo Swamp Thing is worth waiting for.
Rebel in the Rye (2017)
The screenplay is solid and the set designs and wardrobe are spot on. Hoult is fine particularly considering he his working alongside Spacey in fine form.
Normal (2003)
The screenplay strikes the right amount of pathos and it remains respectful of the issue of gender identity. The two performances are spot on.
