The political segments of the screenplay were interesting – more so than those concerning the lead character's personal life – in that they attempted to capture the conflicting issues of the time.
Unusually for a biographical portrait the documentary does not rely on interviewees and it is all the better for it considering the tranquility of the subject.
I've seen many unwearable clothes walked down the documentary runway but these take the cake. However whatever the final fate of these garments they certainly are a work of art.
The screenplay is a bit repetitive and you don't really care what happens to the characters. Performance–wise Hackman is a bit too strong for the rest of the cast.
