Although there is plenty of one on one combat, the screenplay is not bereft of intelligence, the production values are commendable and Roger Moore is there to add some acting talent.
It took courage to even think about making this. The timing and delivery required for the comedy skits are very impressive. The in–character work of the leads is a success and the set designs spot on.
Although it spends a little more time on the more important players and landmarks it entertainingly zips through an impressive number of films (see end credits) accompanied by a slice of information.
The camera lovingly captures Irene Jacob as she is centre stage for much of the running time. Her excellent performance does justice to the double–threaded screenplay.
Warren Beatty is one of the writers as well as the leading man and I'm not sure this is always a good combination. Forty–plus years on the screenplay hasn't aged too well and rarely raises a lather.
A difficult health topic is handled with intelligence. Even if only viewed as a romance it is streets ahead of most. Top performances from the two leads and Olympia help.
