Three Colours: White (1994)
How many screenwriters would give Julie Delpy the heave–ho early in the film and then bring her back for an unflattering ending? An interesting screenplay is aided by an interesting musical score.
Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
It puts a lot of bigger budget productions to shame. The plant is terrific – after being small for a start, it gradually grows on you.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape? (1993)
The screenplay is confined to a small physical area but this is used to advantage in that it can then concentrate on the interesting characters. These are just about believable as being drawn from real life – but perhaps not all from the same family.
Stronger (2017)
It is okay but its another commercial dramatisation of true–life events. Let us hope Mr. Bauman gets some of the profits.
Tales of Terror (1962)
Written by Poe the short stories were always going to hold interest and three of the best performers in this genre deliver.
Sisters (1973)
The screenplay isn't all plain sailing but it is always interesting although Jennifer Salt gets a bit strident at times which can cause a lack of focus for the viewer on what is going on. Overall it has definite curiosity value and worth a watch.
Victory (Escape to Victory) (1981)
The football segments are well done. Prior to that proceedings were in hands of a fine body of performers plus Stallone. I really don't know what he was doing in this – bizarrely although he can't act he had most of the lines.rn
Three Colours: Blue (1993)
Juliette doesn't need dialogue – just camera and lighting.
Thirteenth Floor, The (1999)
After reading the synopsis it was obvious that the screenplay, as it was portrayed, hadn't done justice to the intelligent plot idea. In addition, the loud and annoying soundtrack didn't help in the hearing of the dialogue. I have bought the book.
Seven Years in Tibet (1997)
The first half is best before our two protagonists are domesticated. Overall it is a frustrating experience as it doesn't really do justice as a history lesson which is not helped by the inaudible narration. The various mountain locations are a plus.rn
