Magnolia (2000)
The screenplay is fairly loose and it is one of those that you can randomly dip into at your leisure and not lose the plot. A long weekend would be the best time to view it.
Layer Cake (2004)
The screenplay has a good balance of action and comedy the latter being generated through an impressive list of both quality (e.g. Michael Gambon) and character actors. Sally Hawkins and Jamie Foreman steal their scenes.
Blade of the Immortal (2017)
There was a cast of thousands and they were all needed, with some having to be recycled for later scenes. Most were dispatched in whole or in parts whilst conversely, because of the running time, the audience was in danger of dying of old age.
Class, The (Entre les murs) (2008)
It is okay as a drama but watch the superior "Etre et Avoir" (2002) for some real life situations.
Bottle Shock (2008)
It is okay – Alan Rickman raises its level of watchability.
Delirious (1991)
The plot idea was good but the comedy, even with John Candy, didn't work.
Blind Fury (1989)
Thanks to the lead it had some good moments but we didn't really need the kid.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)
Alan Rickman is terrific but the 2 hours plus running time, which is not unusual with a project involving Costner, needed much more to maintain interest in this well–worn story.- DVD
$20 $15
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Unlike the main character the story is not complicated, & is even familiar, but thanks to some smart editing it is beefed up considerably. The sound department does a great job & Joaquin is not too bad – just joking he's terrific.
Buffalo Bill and the Indians (1976)
A curiosity piece definitely but the screenplay just didn't work.
