A screenplay of two halves. The shorter first half, before he goes on the run, was better for me but the second half is also good. The very consistent Jeremy Irons anchors proceedings and the jazz score that runs most of its length worthy of purchase.
It is not that bad even though it is about a politician. At least it tries to be a bit different from other biopics in its presentation and style. There is a great cameo from Alfred Molina.
The problem with this Alfie character is that his life is so shallow and unproductive that it doesn't deserve sympathy or even attention. He doesn't bring anything to the table.
