Like Water for Chocolate (1993)
It was okay but I had my fill – it just needed to be about more than food and babies.
Angel and the Badman (1947)
All the normal ingredients of a western are there but it does try a lighter than normal tone, including a boys will be boys fight in the saloon, which helps.
Rock Hudson's Home Movies (1992)
It is not clear whether it was the intention of the filmmaker to embarrass others or at least affect our memories of them – but you would think that this would have happened.
First Wives Club, The (1996)
Although the female ensemble casting is good the performances are a touch over–exuberant with the exception of Maggie Smith in a wig. The males don't get much of a look in but Dan Hedaya comes closest to getting a word in.
White Lion (2010)
It follows the usual format when filming animals in the wild and the screenplay is also padded out to fit in some humans.
U.S. Marshals (1998)
Even for its genre, it is quite long but it has one or two segments that have aged well.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)
It is okay but perhaps it tries a bit too hard including the performers over performing their roles.
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
It is still watchable a second time around which is an achievement for a mockumentary when the viewer is already in on the joke.
Mad Dog and Glory (1992)
David Caruso, Mike Starr, & Kathy Baker are in support which shows how strong the casting is. Uma's role was a bit demeaning unfortunately & that side of the screenplay received a bit too much attention & was a detraction from some good writing otherwise
Square, The (2017)
On first viewing I thought it was messy with many uninteresting segments – will try again.
