Aroview: 70's familial dysfunction observed through a 90's prism, Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver are among the adults having mid-life trauma in the post sex-revolution, pre-AIDS era of toe-socks, macrame pot-holders and Deep Throat.
A coming-of-age perspective completes the comic-bleak portrait, and though not quite as weighty as the title might suggest, it's calmly superior adult fare.

4 stars (Very Good) Two upper-class suburban families dealing with the changing times, a introspective and self-indulgent era, in which parents absolve themselves of responsibility for guiding their children while they explore free love and 'key parties'. Chilling. ~GenXGirl
2 stars (Good Try) Even quality performers Sigourney Weaver and Joan Allen can't spark any life into this - although if Allison Janney had more to do things might have been different. However, young Christina Ricci does save the day somewhat. ~Tubbs
