David Bowie: The Last Five Years

UK 2017, 90 minutes
Dir. Francis Whately
Genres: Documentary, Music / Arts & Artists

Topics: Late-life.

Feat. David Bowie

Aroview: A documentary exploring David Bowie's final two albums, The Next Day and Blackstar, and his stage play play Lazarus.

After retiring from live performance in 2004, and stepping out of the spotlight, Bowie returned from a decade long hiatus with his extraordinary album The Next Day. The film includes the voices of every key member of The Next Day band, as well as the Blackstar band and the creative team behind Lazarus. The picture that emerges is of an artist who was far more consistent in his themes and influences that most interpretations of his career have presented, with spirituality, alienation and fame recurring motifs to be found throughout his entire oeuvre. A fascinating and intimate portrait of one of the defining artists of his time.
