Citizen Jane: Battle for the City

USA 2016, 93 minutes
Dir. Matt Tyrnauer
Rating: [G]
Genres: Documentary / Sociology

“It’s a finely woven tapestry that feels as relevant and alive as the place you live.”~Owen Gleiberman, Variety

Aroview: Documentary about urban theorist and activist Jane Jacobs, who campaigned in the 1960's against the building of mass high-rise accommodation and superhighways in New York. The dangers of allowing Trumpian powerbrokers and developers to destroy neighborhood diversity is explored through the context of this historical David vs Goliath story. The issues first introduced in Jane Jacobs' book The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1960) are found to be ever-relevant in today's increasingly gentrified and hyper-urbanized cities.
